Your Questions, Answered

We understand that seeking psychiatric care can feel overwhelming — especially if it is your first time or you are seeking help for your child. Below, Dr. Lt. Col. Aanuj Yadav (Retd.) and our team answer the most common questions we receive. If your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to reach out via phone, WhatsApp, or our contact form. We are here to help.

About Psychiatric Consultations

What happens in a psychiatric consultation?
Your first consultation with Dr. Yadav will be a detailed conversation where he takes time to understand your concerns, medical history, lifestyle, and goals. He will ask questions about your symptoms, their duration, and their impact on your daily life. There are no invasive procedures — it is a conversation. After the assessment, he will explain his findings clearly and discuss treatment options with you.
How long is a consultation?
An initial consultation typically lasts 30-45 minutes, allowing Dr. Yadav to conduct a thorough assessment. Follow-up consultations are usually shorter, around 15-20 minutes, depending on your needs.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No. You can book an appointment directly by calling us at +91 95993 86184 or +91 90543 72227, or by filling out the appointment form on our website.
Can I bring a family member to the consultation?
Absolutely. We encourage family involvement, especially for child and adolescent patients. For adult patients, you are welcome to bring a family member if it makes you more comfortable.

About Medication

Will I be prescribed medication?
Not necessarily. Dr. Yadav follows a minimal-medication philosophy — he prescribes medication only when it is genuinely necessary. Many conditions can be effectively managed with therapy, lifestyle modifications, and stress management techniques alone. When medication is needed, he starts with the lowest effective dose and monitors closely.
Are psychiatric medications addictive?
Most psychiatric medications are not addictive when taken as prescribed. Dr. Yadav carefully selects medications with minimal dependency risk and monitors their use closely. If you have concerns about any specific medication, please discuss them openly during your consultation.
How long will I need to take medication?
This depends on your condition and response to treatment. Some conditions require short-term medication, while others may need longer-term management. Dr. Yadav will discuss the expected duration with you and review your medication regularly, with the goal of using the minimum necessary for the shortest necessary time.
Can I stop medication on my own if I feel better?
No. Stopping psychiatric medication suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms or relapse. Always consult Dr. Yadav before making any changes to your medication. He will guide you on safe tapering if and when it is appropriate.

About Confidentiality

Is my consultation confidential?
Yes, 100%. Every consultation, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plan is strictly confidential. Your information is never shared with anyone — including family members, employers, or other doctors — without your explicit written consent. This is a legal and ethical obligation we take extremely seriously.
Will my child’s school be informed about their treatment?
Only with your explicit consent. We may recommend coordinating with your child’s school to provide appropriate support, but this is always done with parental permission and involvement.
Are my records shared with insurance companies?
We do not share patient records with any third party without your explicit consent. If you need records for insurance purposes, we will provide them only at your written request.

About Child & Adolescent Mental Health

How do I know if my child needs to see a psychiatrist?
If your child shows persistent changes in behaviour, mood, academic performance, social interactions, sleep, or appetite that last for more than a few weeks and affect their daily functioning, it may be time to seek professional help. Trust your instincts — seeking an assessment is always better than waiting.
Will seeing a psychiatrist label my child?
No. A psychiatric assessment is a clinical evaluation, not a label. The goal is to understand your child’s needs and provide appropriate support. All assessments are confidential and do not appear on school records unless you choose to share them.
What is an ADHD assessment?
An ADHD assessment involves a detailed clinical interview, standardised rating scales completed by parents and teachers, behavioural observation, and developmental history review. It typically takes 1-2 sessions and results in a clear diagnostic conclusion and treatment recommendations.
